Baby Unit
This consists of three
large activity rooms, a cot room and a nappy changing room.
The sensory room - 4 months to around 18 months
We have treasure baskets with real objects such as metal or wooden objects,
different materials and so on plus developmentally appropriate toys. All planning
is around the individual child and we use the Birth to Three curriculum.
The physical room
Here the children learn to crawl, walk and climb. We have stairs, slides,
rocking toys and construction activities.
Through play the babies practice
skills, build on experiences ideas and concepts, think creatively and imaginatively
and communicate with others as they investigate and solve problems.
The duckling's room
- 18 months-2 years
This is for the older babies who are talking and walking with confidence.
We are aware all children learn in different ways and at different rates so
we are very flexible in this grouping.
Other activities in this age group consist of painting, craft work, baby massage, music and movement, stories, "reading books" and outdoor play. We even introduce the babies to the German for short periods, during nappy changing, snack time etc.
The ratio in the baby unit is 1
adult to 3 babies.
